Servant of God Msgr. Joseph C. Panjikaren

Servant of god Msgr Panjikaren was born in a village called Uzhuva , near Cherthala,in kerala,India on 10th September 1888 as the third son of Mr.Chacko Panjikaren and Mariam Kanichatt.He completed his matriculation in 1906.he got graduated in History from St.Joseph”s College Thirurappally in 1911 and completed his post graduation from University in 1913.”The Syrian Church in Malabar" was his thesis for M.A. After academic studies he joined the seminary of Ernakulam diocese in 1913 and completed his studies in Kandy Seminary ,Srilanka and got ordained as a priest in 1918 for the diocese of Ernakulam. After his ordination to priesthood he got engaged in very many activities for materializing his vision. He was a teacher at St.Marys High school, Aluva from 1919-1922.

As the director of propagation of faith he traveled by foot, bullock cart, and other transportation facilities throughout the Archdiocese. In 1928 he became the president of ‘Sadhujana sangam’ of the Archdiocese for the uplift of the poor and marginalized. In 1925 he represented Kerala, India in the mission exhibition organized by Vatican in Rome. His contributions were apprececiated by then Pope and awarded him “Bene Merenthi” medal.In 1927 for spreading the good news of the Kingdom of God he started ‘Sathyadeepam” weekly and in1936’ Malabarmail’. He was a zealous historian of his time and he wrote about the historical background of Syro-Malabar Church in Kerala.
